The Task Force collects quarterly water quality data at seven stations. Volunteers measure temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen in the field at each site, and collect water samples at each site for laboratory analyses of nitrate, total and fecal coliform bacteria, and turbidity. In addition, aquatic insect and benthic algal biomass samples are collected annually. Click on a monitoring parameter listed below to find out why we monitor each of these parameters in the Upper Gallatin River. This information was adapted from handouts produced by the Montana Volunteer Water Monitoring Project.
