Education & Outreach

As part of our education and outreach program, the Task Force provides information on water quality and nonpoint source pollution through a variety of activities. These activities are designed to educate local community members about water quality issues and describe how the Task Force is addressing these issues.

Quarterly Community Demonstrations
In tandem with our quarterly sampling events, the Blue Water Task Force conducts community meetings targeted at a specific issue or interest group. Take a look at our tentative schedule and join us if you can:
  • October 27th: "Gallatin Watershed ABCs: Who's doing what in our watershed?

  • December 17th: "Water Water Everywhere: What do we know about water quantity in Big Sky?"

  • March 11th: "Growth and Sustainability: How do we successfully co-exist with our treasured environment?"

  • June 17th: "Treading Lightly: Recreation in the urban/wildland interface"
Educational Presentations
The Blue Water Task Force frequently works with Ophir School classrooms to conduct special learning opportunities. Ophir students have participated in a "Bug Rodeo" where they collected bugs and learned about their importance in our river. They followed up with the event by creating a "Bugs in Big Sky" brochure ( see our Publications for a copy). Ophir students also created and presented public demonstrations on the water cycle and the different tests we do on water samples. Future plans include working with the students on developing signage for Big Sky community trails, and creating a Bug Rodeo tradition. If you have any ideas for participation with Ophir students, please contact us!

Presentations

Presentations conducted by the Blue Water Task Force are a great way to provide information on the aquatic resources in the Gallatin River Watershed, and the ways in which human activities can affect these resources.

If you would like a member of the Task Force to give a presentation for your group or organization, please contact at 995-4601.
